Here's the dish on what I found to be essentially needed for traveling and being out and about with my little bug. A lot of lists I found online on what to keep packed in your diaper duty bag were for children older than 6 months so it was trial and error for me to know what to keep in there. Here's what I found to be helpful:
I LOVE my diaper bag. I do realize it isn't a drop in the bucket for cost but I'm here to tell you that if I had it to do over again I would buy the same exact one. The only thing I wish it had was a messenger strap for being a little more "hands free". I impulsively purchased a second one from Target a few weeks ago for around 40 dollars because of its long strap I could throw over my shoulder and the cold frigid Wisconsin weather we've been battling but I ended up returning it because it didn't hold a candle to my first one. This one has super awesome thick sturdy fabric, nickel feet, and nice stroller clips that pull out. Plus it has lots and lots of pockets to keep all that stuff inside organized.
2. My Wristlet
I used to be the girl carrying around the purse the size of a diaper bag. Now actually carrying a diaper bag I feel like I'd have no arms by the time I'm thirty. So instead of killing myself I got a bigger wristlet to fit my cards, checkbook, and phone inside the diaper bag itself. (I actually got it from the in-laws for Christmas!) That way when I go somewhere by myself I don't have to grab the entire diaper bag and look like a fool carrying around a big diaper bag without a kid.
You know how big of a pain it is when you're in the middle of the mall and you're son drops his pacifier and you didn't pack another one and you're miles and miles away from the bathroom to rinse it off as your child screams bloody murder for it? If you don't you don't want to know so get these and throw them in your bag. You'll be happy you did.
I haven't actually had to use this yet (knock on wood) but this one is super nice because you don't even have to wake them up to take their temp. Annnd it's fast, another plus.
5. Notepad & Pen (cute one here)
When you're a new mother and you're out somewhere and you just got the thought of something on the car insurance policy that you'd like to change or that bill that you can't forget to pay online when you get home and you have nowhere to jot it down to remember it this will come in handy to have. Trust me. Do yourself a favor and get one in a cute, fun girly color. Especially if you have a boy because "pink, flowery" things will become a thing of the past in your house.
These are the wipes we've chosen to use and we like them. Haven't had any problems so far and hope not to. They are reasonably priced and we get Gifts to Grow rewards for them so that's a plus as well.
7. Gripe Water
This is the equivalent to Gas Drops, which we use them too. But with having a reflux baby comes tummy aches often so we carry this with us. Comes in super handy dandy.
Again, these are just the ones we've chosen to use. I feel like they are super soft compared to other brands and who doesn't want the best for their babe?
When you're traveling four hours to your mothers house across the state it helps to have something to throw a diaper in that doesn't make your entire vehicle smell like doodoo for the rest of the ride.
Our fav of diaper rash cream. We tried Boudreaux's Butt Paste and Desitin before we had Gray into the doc for his rash and they recommended we use. Spread that stuff like cream cheese works like a charm with just a couple uses!
11. The Wubbanub
I mentioned this in my previous post on how much we LOVE the wubbanub so it would be foolish to not have an extra for the diaper bag.
So, what's your must-haves for on the go with your little munchkins?
So let's finish off today with another look at my handsome man..his faces just kill me :)
